handinhandbuch cmyk:
three CMYK atlases in one

The DIGITAL COLOUR ATLAS contains this colour value book.It consists of three areas with each 33 pages with the CMYK colour area for the offset printing conforming to standards on coated and uncoated paper and paper suitable for newspapers.

All colour fields have been measured individually and have been deposited to the software. This date base is used for all CMYK calculations and is consulted within the software – thus is the way how the DIGITAL COLOURATLAS reaches highly exact and unique documented CMYK-results.

We do not produce the CMYK atlas ourselfes, we order it from a notabler Berlin Satzstudio satzinform.

CMYK colour space

The CMYK atlas shows the CMYK colour space in constant nuances on every paper grade:

C/M/Y/K-Aufrasterung Firstly the several colours for printing are displayed in steps of 5 percent reaching from 5% .... 100%.
CMYK-kombination Then CMYK-combinations and those with black are displayed.
CMY: 0...100% in 10%-steps, additional 5%, 15%, 25%
all these kombinations also with black: 10%, 20%, 35%, 50%

As a result there are 5584 colour fields for every type of paper.

Print to ISO on paperclasses to FOGRA/ECI

The above mentioned 5584 nuances have been printed on three different types of paper according to the industrial norm.

Art print
matte coated, coated woodfree, white, woodfree
Schneidersöhne LuxoArt Silk 170 g/m²
(ECI type of paper 2; the result of the print is according to ECI/FOGRA also usable as reference for the paper class 1 (glänzend gestrichen)
raster frequency: 175 lpi; 70er raster
Naturpapier
uncoated Offsetprintpaper, white
Munken Lynx 200 g/m²; 1,13 vol.
(ECI Papierklasse 4)
raster frequency: 138 lpi, 54er raster
Newsprint (Recycling)
uncoated Offsetprintpaper, white
Recystar 150 g/m²; 1,3 vol.
(ECI Papierklasse 4)
raster frequency: 138 lpi, 54er raster

What is the reason for the CMYK-results being extremely precise ?

Firstly
the 5,008 CMYK colour fields per type represent a vastly higher density of the data than the ICC profile of the ECI (usually using 1,465 colour fields as reference), which are otherwiese used in the offset printing as basis for calculation.

Secondly
the CMYK-parameter are exactly documented (see the above listing).

Thirdly
the results of the calculation can be immediately looked up, the software application also states in which position within the book the corresponding colour field can be found.

Fourthly
the software suggests several recommendations for every comaprison of colours.

Fifthly
there is with the sophisticated calculation of the best result, which is calculated from several CMYK fields the possibility to further enhance the CMYK-result.

On the base of the handinhandbuch cmyk the DIGITAL COLOUR ATLAS CMYK-colours identifies as exact as the experienced „human“ retrograph but much more faster.
